How It Works

Solana uses a hybrid consensus model that combines Proof of Stake (PoS) with a cryptographic time‑keeping system called Proof of History (PoH). PoH creates a verifiable sequence of timestamps that lets validators agree on the order of transactions without waiting for network‑wide communication. This dramatically reduces coordination overhead, enabling Solana to process large volumes of transactions quickly, efficiently, and at very low cost.

Consensus Mechanism

Solana uses a hybrid consensus model that combines Proof of Stake (PoS) with Proof of History (PoH). Validators stake SOL to secure the network and participate in block production, while PoH acts as a cryptographic clock that timestamps events. This lets validators agree on transaction order more efficiently, reducing coordination overhead and enabling high throughput at low cost.
